many Towns and Communities in Van Zandt County. We refer to
these areas
as "Towns" and not "Cities", because the biggest town, Canton, has
only 3,417 people.* The three
largest towns are Canton, Wills Point, and Grand Saline. The entire population of
Van Zandt County
is only about 52,000 people. Van Zandt County has about 855 Square Miles
which gives it a
population density of under 50 people per Square Mile. The growth rate,
according to Census
Statistics is about 13.3% over the past four years.
Contrast that population density and growth rate with the figures for Collin County,
North of the Dallas area. Collin County, is slightly smaller, with 851
Square Miles, but had a
population in 1997 of 401,352; population density of 472 per Square Mile,
and a growth rate over the last four years of 52%.**
